Some of the catch may have resulted in injuries so the third step to make your own zombie costume is you add fake blood to most areas of danger in your outfit. Leave a few unbloodied, as zombies are not as precise and probably will not manage to draw blood with every attempt.
Most fake blood dries to a pinkish color that is very sad. Add multiple layers of "blood" to darken the stain, letting each dry application first.
Or the Internet for ways to create their own blood. Some words of caution though ... corn syrup is very sticky and does not want to mess with your clothes if you can help.
